New economic strategy launched in Cuba

Cuba’s President Miguel Díaz-Canel announced last week that his government had approved a series of measures as part of a new economic strategy. Under the new measures, as of this month, the minimum wage for state workers will rise to CUP400 (US$15) and the average monthly salary to CUP1,067. As regards social security, efforts are now underway to address the issue of those eligible to receive a monthly pension of less than CUP500 who have not yet started to receive it (the minimum pension is currently CUP242).
