* In a press conference Mexico’s economy minister Graciela Márquez has sought to downplay the US government’s recent announcement that it is to impose countervailing duties (CVDs) on Mexican and Chinese fabricated structural steel imports. Márquez insisted that the tariffs are not part of a trade war but rather a common practice, pointing out that Mexico recently announced it was imposing tariffs on products from Russia, Brazil, and China – a move which she claimed did not signify a “trade war with Russia, Brazil or China” but rather that the economy ministry's international trade practices unit  (UPCI) had deemed it necessary.
