GUYANA: The IMF positive at crucial political juncture

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) issued a statement on Guyana on 17 June following a mission to the country as part of the Article IV consultation process. It was broadly positive on the economic front. The political situation, on the other hand, is far from stable with the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) upholding the validity of the 21 December 2018 no-confidence motion, which according to the constitution should have triggered a general election within three months.
