GUATEMALA: Morales slammed over spending priorities

The planned purchase of two Pampa III military planes from Argentina’s state-run aircraft manufacturing company Fábrica Argentina de Aviones (Fadea) last week threatened a new scandal for President Jimmy Morales. While the defence ministry has since announced plans to backtrack on the deal, the proposed acquisition nonetheless lay the conservative Frente de Convergencia Nacional (FCN-Nación) government open to fresh complaints regarding its prioritisation of spending and failure to make good key campaign pledges.
