Danilo Medina regarding the importance of all political actors in preserving democratic institutions, and adhering to rule of law and the constitution, particularly in the lead-up to the Dominican Republic’s general election on 17 May 2020. The phone conversation came amid widespread speculation regarding President Medina’s efforts to reform the constitution in order to allow him to run for a third consecutive term for the ruling Partido de la Liberación Dominicana (PLD), which has held uninterrupted power since 2004.
