In brief: Brazil to export dairy products to China

* Brazil’s agriculture ministry (Mapa) has announced that China has opened its market to Brazilian dairy products, certifying 24 Brazilian establishments for the export of products such as powdered milk and cheese. Agriculture Minister Tereza Cristina da Costa Dias noted that this is good news for Brazil’s 1.2m small-scale dairy producers and “brings hope to the milk industry”, which has been going through a difficult time with a fall in the price of milk. Viva Lácteos, the Brazilian association of dairy products, hopes that the 24 certified establishments will export a combined US$4.5m worth of dairy products to China.
