López Obrador criticises new IMF forecast. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) adjusted its global economic growth predictions on 22 July, reducing Mexico’s 2019 GDP growth forecast to 0.9%. The new forecast is 0.7 percentage points lower than the IMF’s previous April forecast of 1.6%. The IMF cited a drop in Mexico’s credit ratings, more political uncertainty, and increased interest rates as the main factors in its reduced growth predictions. If this prediction holds true, it would be the worst economic growth rate in Mexico since the early 2000s. The downwards revision of Mexico’s growth forecast is consistent with the IMF’s outlook for Latin America and the Caribbean.
