In brief: UN and Panama Canal authority to co-operate over climate change

* The administrator of the Panama Canal, Jorge Quijano, and the director of the United Nations Environment Programme in Latin America and the Caribbean, Leo Heileman, have signed an agreement to join efforts on sustainable development and combating climate change. The disruption of rainfall patterns due to climate change is one of the main threats to water levels in the watershed of the Canal. The agreement includes cooperation efforts between the organisations in areas such as the creation and management of environmental economic incentives, integrated watershed management, water availability, and air quality.
