In brief: Ecuador launches bidding process for solar park and wind farms

* The Ecuadorean government has announced a bidding process for the development of a solar park and two wind farms, requiring US$400m in private investments: the 'El Aromo' (Manabi province) and 'Villonaco II and III' (Loja province) projects. El Aromo solar park will have a generation capacity of 200MW and will produce an estimated 280GWh/year of energy. The estimated production could cover 60.8% of the energy consumption for the city of Manta. It is expected to reduce CO2 levels by around 128,000 tonnes (t) per year. The wind farm projects, Villonaco II and III, which include the Membrillo Ducal and Huayrapamaba sites in the Loja province, have a minimum power estimate of 110MW between the two sites, which could reduce CO2 levels by 219,870t per year.
