New port facilities: On 1 July commercial operations began at the new maritime port facilities in Mexico’s Veracruz state, with the ‘White Shark’, a ship owned by a French shipping company, officially unloading its cargo. The almost 300m-long ship was the first to land in Veracruz’s new terminal, and many believe that the newly renovated terminal will become a frequent choice for European cargo ships delivering to Mexico. Manuel Óscar Enciso Villarreal, director general of customs agency Corporativo Enciso, told reporters that the new terminal will not only cut down production costs by as much as 60%-70%, but also help create up to 150,000 new jobs in the next five years.
