* Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released figures which show that industrial production fell by 0.6% in June, the second consecutive negative monthly result after a 0.1% decrease in May. Industrial production for June 2019 dropped by 5.9% when compared with June 2018, while the cumulative result for the first six months of 2019 fell by 1.6% compared with the same period last year. The extractive industry, which took a hit following the rupture of Vale-owned tailings dam in Brumadinho, Minas Gerais state, in January this year, continues to be the worst performer.
