* The Colombian and United Kingdom governments have agreed a Col$2bn (US$591,000) pilot project to combat illegal actions that contribute to the loss of forests and biodiversity in Colombia. The 12-month project will strengthen the coordination mechanisms of government institutions, provide specialised training and formalisation in matters of land grabbing, and implement criminal investigations and environmental sanctions in response to cases related to deforestation. Support will also be given to the running of Colombia’s national council for combating deforestation (Conaldef).
