In brief: Chile pleads for end to US-China trade war
* Chile’s President Sebastián Piñera has called on the US and China to end their trade war, which he described as “damaging” not only to both powers, but also to global growth, strongly affecting “open and integrated economies such as Chile”. President Piñera expressed his opinion on Twitter, where he personally pleaded for US President Donald Trump and China’s President Xi Jinping to “end this harmful war”. This came after Trump announced that from 1 September the US will impose a new 10% tariff on US$300bn worth of Chinese goods entering the US market.
