In brief: Brazil’s first floating solar power inaugurated

* Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro has inaugurated a floating solar power plant located in the reservoir of the Sobradinho hydroelectric plant in Bahia state. The plant, installed by the state-owned Companhia Hidrelétrica de São Francisco (Chesf), has a generating capacity of 1 megawatt peak (MWp). It is the first stage of the project, with a second photovoltaic array in the reservoir planned to bring total generating capacity to 2.5MWp. The overall planned investment is R$56m (US$14m). Chesf is also planning to install a floating solar power plant with a 1.25 MWp generating capacity in the reservoir of the Boa Esperança hydroelectric power plant (state of Piauí) in 2020.
