In brief: Nicaragua and South Korea sign free-trade deal

* Nicaragua and South Korea have signed a free-trade agreement (FTA) which will enter into force on 1 October after completion of the ratification process in both countries. Negotiations regarding the FTA began in June 2015 between South Korea and six Central American countries (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama) and concluded in Nicaragua in November 2016 and will eventually eliminate tariffs on about 95% of goods traded by both sides.
