Alberto Fernández will impact the Chilean economy, but the impact will be limited and felt mainly by a few Chilean companies which operate in Argentina. The surprise primary outcome sent the S&P Merval index plunging 48% in US dollar terms. Chile’s President
Sebastián Piñera pointed out that
“the Chilean and Argentine economies are in very different situations”. Argentina is in a recession while Chile is growing.
