In brief: Copper exports resume from major port in Peru

* Copper export shipments from Peru's Matarani port have resumed after the port was blockaded for nearly three weeks by protesters who opposed the construction permit for Southern Perú Copper Corporation's (SPCC) 'Tía María' copper mining project in the southern region of Arequipa. Shipments were resumed at the Matarani port terminal, which accounts for 49% of Peru’s copper exports, just after Peru’s national mining counsel suspended the operating licence for the Tía María project on 13 August.
