In brief: The EU mobilises €9m in humanitarian aid to Haiti

* The European Union (EU) has made €9m (US$10m) available in response to Haiti’s deteriorating food and nutrition situation. Between 2018 and 2019, 2.6m Haitians (25% of the population) required urgent food and nutritional assistance. The humanitarian aid aims to meet the needs of more than 130,000 people living in the worst affected areas and children suffering from acute malnutrition. According to Christos Stylianides, EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, the EU “has not forgotten” about the humanitarian crisis in Haiti and is “committed to providing vital support to the people hit by the food and nutrition crisis in the country”.
