In brief: Calls for 1.5% deficit limit to be respected in Paraguay budget

* The head of Paraguay’s national chamber of commerce and services (CNCSP), Ernesto Figueredo, has urged authorities in charge of defining the 2020 national expenditure budget for next year to respect the deficit limit of 1.5% of GDP, established in the fiscal responsibility law. Figueredo states the need to “improve the quality of spending as a matter of urgency”, recognising Paraguay’s “poorly” managed expenditures, whereby many resources have been allocated to public sector salaries and little investment allocated to infrastructure, education, and health.
