HONDURAS: Hernández faces fresh drug allegations

President Juan Orlando Hernández is again on the defensive over drug-related allegations. A document unsealed by the New York City District Court on 2 August as part of the trial of his brother Juan Antonio ‘Tony’ Hernández, charged with drug trafficking in November 2018, allege the conservative Partido Nacional (PN) government received US$1.5m in drug-trafficking proceeds to secure Hernández’s 2013 election. The latest revelations – which Hernández has denied – add further fuel to demonstrations calling for his resignation which have been taking place since April staged by the protest movement Plataforma de Lucha para la Defensa de la Salud y la Educación (PDSE).
