In brief - US dollar up against Brazilian real

* The US dollar has strengthened against the Brazilian real and was up to R$4.068/US$1 at the end of 19 August. This represents the highest value the dollar has reached against the real since 20 May 2019 (R$4.10/US$1). This comes after Bruna Serra Fernandes, director of monetary policy at Brazil’s central bank (BCB), announced that the BCB will sell a total of US$3.845bn in foreign exchange reserves (commencing 21 August), as part of a foreign exchange swap to try to stabilise the exchange rate.
