In brief - UMC to open new car parts factory in Yucatán, Mexico

* The Yucatán state government has confirmed that in November Uchiyama Manufacturing Corporation (UMC) will begin constructing a car parts factory based in Hunucmá municipality, Yucatán. UMC is a Japanese company that produces car components for Japanese companies such as Toyota, Mazda, and Nissan. The components will be exported to the US, South America, and Asia, via the port city of Progreso, Yucatán. According to the Yucatán state government, UMC will invest M$1.33bn (US$67.7m) over the next five years in the factory, generating 1,000 jobs directly.
