In brief – Ecuador and UK discuss trade and investment

* Government officials from Ecuador and the United Kingdom (UK) have discussed ways to strengthen their bilateral relationship in areas of trade and investment. During a meeting which took place on 19 August between the UK’s trade commissioner for Latin America & the Caribbean, Joanna Crellin, and Ecuador’s deputy foreign minister Augusto Saá, during a visit by Crellin to Ecuador, the parties announced that negotiations regarding the signing of a double taxation avoidance agreement would begin in October. The two parties also discussed the possibility of establishing a new treaty to protect and promote investments with the aim of encouraging UK investment in Ecuador.
