In brief: Brazil’s gov’t moots privatising more state companies

* Brazil’s government chief-of-staff, Onyx Lorenzoni, and Infrastructure Minister Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas have announced the launching of studies on either the partial or complete privatisation of nine state companies. The companies include: postal service operator Empresa Brasileira de Correios e Telégrafos (ECT); the telecommunications company Telebrás; port authority Companhia Docas do Estado de São Paulo (Codesp); and Empresa de Tecnologia e Informações da Previdência Social (Dataprev), which is linked to the economy ministry and responsible for the payment of pensions. Others include: information technology company Serviço Federal de Processamento de Dados (Serpro); Agência Brasileira Gestora de Fundos Garantidores (ABGF), tasked with promoting exports and the development of infrastructure plans; asset management company Empresa Gestora de Ativos (Emgea); technology company Centro de Excelência em Tecnologia Eletrônica Avançada (Ceitec); and the agricultural supplier Companhia de Entrepostos e Armazéns Gerais de São Paulo (Ceagesp). Following this announcement, and expectations of further privatisations, the São Paulo stock exchange (Bovespa) closed at 101,201, up 2%.
