Increase in unemployment rate. Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) released new figures on 14 August showing that unemployment for the second quarter of 2019 (April-June) was 3.5%, with no change since the previous quarter. This represents a 0.2% annual increase, as unemployment in the second quarter of 2018 was 3.3%. Inegi’s figures also revealed an annual increase in the underemployment rate in April-June 2019 to 7.6% from 7% a year earlier.
