The Brazilian Amazon, fertile ground for crime

In the first few months of 2019, the Brazilian state of Roraima reportedly exported US$6.5m worth of gold to India, making the precious metal the state’s second-largest export after soya. Yet there is not a single legally registered gold mine in Roraima, an Amazonian state which borders Venezuela in northern Brazil.
