In brief: US$800m new biofuel plant in Paraguay

* The Paraguayan government has announced that ECB Group, a Brazilian energy and agriculture company, will invest US$800m to build the first renewable biofuel production plant ‘Omega Green’ in the southern hemisphere. The plant, which will be located in the town of Villeta, Central department, is expected to generate 3,000 direct jobs during construction and a further 2,400 jobs, both directly and indirectly, when it is in operation (expected in 2022). Omega Green could produce up to 20,000 barrels per day (bpd) of hydrotreated vegetable oil and synthetic paraffinic kerosene.
