In brief: EU to give Colombia ‎€30m to address Venezuela migration

* Following a meeting with Colombia’s President Iván Duque, the European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini announced that the EU was providing Colombia with an additional €30m (US$33.3m) to help it cope with an influx of Venezuelan migrants. Mogherini said, “We support these efforts by the government and local authorities to offer employment, entrepreneurship and dignified housing for refugees, migrants, returned people and also receiver communities”. Mogherini added that the EU is already providing the region with an aid package worth over €130m to address the crisis, with Colombia particularly affected. At the end of August, the United Nations put the number of refugees and migrants from Venezuela at 4.3m, a figure which is “growing by the day”.
