Juan Orlando Hernández announced a reforestation plan which will see 2m trees planted by the end of 2019, in an area of 80,000 hectares. Trees will be planted in drainage basins, as well as areas affected by southern pine beetles, forest fires, and logging. Hernández noted that his government is attempting to meet conditions stipulated by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) in order to access additional funding. The reforestation plan follows the declaration of a state of national emergency as a result of drought on 5 September, for which L200m (US$8.15m) has been assigned.
