David Bohigian paid a diplomatic visit paid to Colombia as part of a regional tour. The tour focused on strengthening US relations with the South American countries and announcing various initiatives promoting the economic empowerment of women as a means of encouraging regional development and prosperity. While in Colombia, Sullivan met with Foreign Minister
Carlos Holmes Trujillo to discuss
“relations on counter narcotics and citizen security, the crisis in Venezuela, and expanding economic opportunity”. On the topic of Venezuela, Sullivan noted
“we are determined to not yield in our commitment” to
Juan Guaidó, leader of Venezuela’s opposition controlled national assembly (AN), who is internationally recognised as Venezuela’s interim president. A key objective of the diplomatic visit was for the US to promote its Women’s Global Development and Prosperity (WGDP) initiative, a project established in February, which intends to empower 50m women by 2025 through helping women to prosper in the workforce and succeed as entrepreneurs.
