In brief: Colombia’s EPM sells Chile wind power project

* The Chilean subsidiary of Colombian state-owned utilities firm Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM), EPM Chile, has announced the US$138m sale of a wind power project (with an installed capacity of 109.6 MW) in Chile’s Coquimbo Region to AES Gener SA and its subsidiary Norgener Renovables SpA (both subsidiaries of US firm AES Corporation). EPM Chile also sold its participation in EPM Transmisión Chile SA. This is part of EPM’s divestment plan to meet liquidity requirements, as a result of issues with the EPM-owned Hidroituango hydroelectric dam project in Colombia’s Antioquia department. This project has suffered multiple setbacks, and costs due to the delay in the project’s completion are around Col$7bn (US$2.07m).
