* Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom) has announced that Russia and the Dominican Republic (DR) have signed a memorandum of bilateral cooperation in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy – the first of its kind between the two countries. The agreement was signed on the side-lines of the 63
rd edition of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) General Conference in Vienna, Austria (16-20 September). The memorandum outlines Russia and the DR’s commitment to the promotion of the secure and peaceful use of nuclear energy and technologies, including projects such as the development of the DR’s nuclear infrastructure and the creation of programmes to raise public awareness of nuclear technologies and the nuclear energy sector. According to Rosatom, the next step will be the creation of an intergovernmental agreement between Russia and the DR.
