The approval rating of Peru’s President Martín Vizcarra suffered a second straight monthly decline in September, according to a poll conducted by the pollster Ipsos for the national daily El Comercio. The fall is indicative of public frustration at Vizcarra’s political impotence. Vizcarra insisted this week that he would continue pushing for general elections to be brought forward by one year to April 2020 but congress has stymied his efforts to force through this change, and legislators representing the dominant right-wing Fuerza Popular (FP, Fujimoristas) appear to be intent on stringing out the debate to the point that there would no longer be time to organise the elections anyway.End of preview - This article contains approximately 608 words.
