prohibit the use of single use plastic bags in their different presentations, forms and designs”. Giammattei complained that he had not been consulted by the outgoing government of President
Jimmy Morales about the accord, which takes full effect in two years, and said the problem should be addressed in a more comprehensive manner. Morales referred to the accord, which has been rejected by the local private sector, during the 2019 United Nations Climate Action Summit on 23 September, stating that, “
The process to prohibit the import and distribution of single-use plastic bags, plastic straws and common utensils made from polyethene…has started…[opening] the door to environmentally friendly products.”
