* Brazil’s economy ministry has released the latest data from the national employment registry (Caged), which shows that 121,387 formal job positions were created in August 2019. This is the fifth consecutive month that Caged has recorded positive formal job creation, and the best August result since 2013. For the year 2019 to date, a total 593,467 new jobs have been created in the formal sector.
Bruno Dalcolmo, the economy ministry’s labour secretary, said that “
the Caged points towards a gradual recovery in employment and economic growth, after a challenging first half of the year”, and highlighted the civil construction sector as an example of this recovery.
