In brief: Spanish firm invests in Brazil solar park

* The state government of Piauí, in the northeast of Brazil, has announced that Spanish company Enerside will begin the construction of a solar park in the municipality of Ribeiro Gonçalves in early 2020. The photovoltaic (PV) complex, which will cost US$320m and span an area of 550 hectares, will have total installed capacity of 322.06 MWp. According to the Piauí state government, the solar park’s estimated energy production per year will total 644,232 MWh and avoid 300,000 tonnes of carbon emissions once works are completed in 2023. “It’s a big project, which will generate 180 direct jobs, with 80% of the workforce being local. It represents more clean energy and development for our state”, says Piauí state governor Wellington Dias.
