In brief: Brazil sees negative inflation in September

* Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the latest figures for the national consumer price index (IPCA), which registered 0.04% deflation in September. This negative inflation was principally driven by a 0.43% drop in prices in the food and beverage category. Inflation for the first nine months of 2019 stands at 2.49%, while annual inflation for the 12 months to September 2019 totals 2.89%. This remains within the central bank’s (BCB) inflation target range for the year of 4.25% +/- 1.5 percentage points.
