* The Central American bank for economic integration (BCIE) has given two loans to the Nicaraguan government for a total of US$585.34m with the objective of strengthening the country’s competitiveness. The first is a loan for US$333.87m to finance a road improvement and expansion programme and the second is a loan for US$251.47m to improve potable water and sanitation systems in seven cities: Chichigalpa, Chinandega, El Viejo (all in Chinangeda department), León, Telica (León), Jinotepe (Carazo), and Ciudad Darío (Matagalpa).
