In brief: Panama ratifies FTA with Israel

* Panama’s 71-member unicameral national legislature has ratified a free trade agreement (FTA) with Israel which includes immediate preferential treatment for many of Panama’s agricultural and agro-industrial products. These include vinegar; coffee; palm oil (both crude and refined); frozen beef; hamburger meat; and beer, among other things. Both countries have, however, maintained tariffs for a 15-year period on some sensitive products from the agricultural, fishing, and industrial sectors with some excluded from the deal altogether.
