In brief: Siemens to invest €500m in Colombia

* German technology company Siemens has announced an investment of €500m (US$551.31m) in a number of key sectors in Colombia. A government press release outlined that Colombia's President Iván Duque and Siemens CEO Joe Kaeser met in Colombia’s capital, Bogotá, to discuss the funding which specifically relates to digital manufacturing, the internet of things (IoT), energy transition, cyber security, health, infrastructure, and transport. According to Duque, the investment demonstrates that Colombia is “one of the countries within Latin America and the Caribbean that is growing the most in economic terms” and the investment will “allow Colombians to overcome boundaries”. Siemens also signed an agreement to invest in Colombia’s training centre for industry 4.0 which aims to “train the younger generation…with the most modern and sophisticated software”.
