In brief: Brazilian renewables firm files for bankruptcy protection

* Renova Energia SA, one of Brazil’s largest renewable energy company, has filed for bankruptcy protection. Renova Energia is looking to restructure R$3.1bn (US$745m) of debt, after failure to sell the heavily indebted Alto Sertão III wind farm project led major shareholder Light SA to sell its 17% stake in the company for a symbolic R$1. Renova Energia, which specialises in small hydroelectric plants and wind energy, was the first renewables company to be listed on the São Paulo stock exchange.
