Brazil’s federal police raided properties in the north-eastern state of Pernambuco on 15 October linked to federal deputy Luciano Bivar, head of the Partido Social Liberal (PSL), the right-wing party that helped sweep Jair Bolsonaro to the presidency this time last year. Bivar stands accused of improper use of campaign funds. Bivar-Bolsonaro relations have in any case become fraught. Bolsonaro has been dropping heavy hints that he may resign from the PSL and form a new conservative coalition.
