In brief: Costa Rica’s poverty rate remains stable

* Costa Rica’s national statistics institute (Inec) has released its national household survey which shows that, in 2019, 20.98% of the country’s households were living in poverty, a slight decline on the 21.06% reported in 2018. The same figures showed that 5.8% of households were living in extreme poverty in 2019, down from 6.3% in 2018. Meanwhile urban poverty increased to 19.77% of households in 2019 from 19.52% in 2018 while figures for rural poverty were 24.17% down from 25.11% in 2018.
