In brief: Conventional oil deposit found in Argentina’s ‘Vaca Muerta’

* Officials from the state-owned energy firm of Argentina’s Medonza province (Emesa) have announced the discovery of a new conventional crude oil deposit inside the ‘Vaca Muerta’ field, Argentina’s large-scale shale hydrocarbon deposit. The surprise discovery was made in the Agua Botada area as unconventional-crude oil explorations of the area were just beginning. Hydrocarbons and special projects manager at Emesa, Martín Angelini, said that the newly discovered deposit consists of “very good quality, very light, conventional oil of 26 or 27 API [American Petroleum Institute] degrees”.
