In brief: Hotels close in Haiti

* In a tweet Haiti’s foreign minister Bocchit Edmond has said he was “deeply saddened by the decisions of some investors in the hotel sector to close their doors”.  His remarks follow reports that Haiti’s Best Western Premier Hotel in the Pétion-Ville commune, a suburb of Port-au-Prince, will close its doors to the public on 31 October. The news follows a recent announcement that another big hotel, Hotel Mont Joli in Cap-Haïtien commune, the capital of Nord department, would also be closed temporarily due to security concerns. The announcement takes place amid ongoing protests since mid-September calling for President Jovenel Moïse to resign.
