EL SALVADOR: FMLN and Arena linked to gang payments
A mass trial of 426 members of the Mara Salvatrucha (MS13) street gang has implicated the country’s two largest parties, the left-wing Frente Farabundo Martí para la Liberación Nacional (FMLN) and the right-wing Alianza Republicana Nacionalista (Arena) in illegal vote-buying. President Nayib Bukele has seized on the opportunity to attack the political establishment, despite himself facing allegations of impropriety.
