* Brazil’s tourism minister,
Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, has announced a R$200m (US$50m) credit line to assist small and medium-sized businesses in the tourism sector located in areas suffering from the consequences of an oil spill in Brazil’s Northeast region, that has gradually been polluting beaches along more than 2,000km of coastline for the past two months. These extra resources are being released from the Fundo Geral do Turismo (Fungetur) with the aim of mitigating a possible slowdown in tourism activity. “
Fingetur’s credit lines are very attractive from the point of view of their terms, the cost of credit, and the needs of states and cities which have been impacted by the oil arriving from the sea”, Álvaro Antônio said as he announced the measure in Porto de Galinhas, Pernambuco state.
