* The full official preliminary results of the first round of the Uruguayan presidential elections show that no candidate obtained the necessary 50% +1 of the vote to win election outright, meaning that a run-off between the first and second placed candidates will be needed.
Daniel Martínez, the presidential candidate of the leftist ruling Frente Amplio (FA) coalition received 39.2% of the vote on the preliminary results;
Luis Lacalle Pou, of the centre-right Partido Nacional (PN, Blancos) received 28.6%;
Ernesto Talvi of the right-of-centre Partido Colorado (PC) 12.3%; and
Guido Manini Ríos of the right-wing Cabildo Abierto (CA) 10.9%, with the remaining presidential candidates obtaining significantly lower percentage votes. Martínez and Lacalle Pou will face each other in a run-off scheduled for 24 November. The expectation is that Martínez will face a more challenging second round as voters of opposition candidates knocked out in the first round will likely redirect their votes towards Lacalle Pou. Both Talvi and Manini Ríos have already confirmed they will support Lacalle Pou in the second round.
