In brief: Private sector criticises Mexico’s clean energy certificates guidelines

* Mexican private sector lobby group, Consejo Coordinador Empresarial (CCE), has criticised a change in the guidelines for clean energy certificates (CELs) implemented by the energy ministry (Sener). According to CCE, the modification only benefits the federal electricity commission (CFE) and will negatively affect the country’s energy sector development through altering equal treatment amongst energy sector participants, generating uncertainty and damaging national and international investments which amount to over US$9bn. Since Sener’s publication of the modifications, more than 60 individuals and organisations, including the national associations for wind (Amdee) and solar (Asolmex) energy producers, have requested that the national regulatory improvement commission (Conamer) carries out an analysis of the regulatory modifications’ impact.
