In brief: Unemployment increases in Colombia

* Colombia’s national statistics institute (Dane) has released a report giving the unemployment rate in September as 10.2%, an increase of 0.7 percentage points compared with September 2018, when the rate was 9.5%. The report reveals that the unemployment rate for men during this period was 8.1% compared with 7.4% in September 2018. For women there is a similar pattern, registering 13% unemployment in September 2019 compared with 12.2% in September 2018. The Colombian cities with the highest rates of unemployment are Quibdó (18.4%), Cúcuta (16.5%), and Valledupar (15.3%), with the lowest rates of unemployment registered in Cartagena (6.6%), Barranquilla (7.9%), and Bucaramanga (9%).
